A state lawmaker from northwest Alabama was arrested and jailed on a domestic violence charge Friday after his wife claimed he threatened to beat her.
Rep. Tracy Estes, R-Winfield, was held Friday in the Marion County jail on a charge of third-degree domestic violence, WBRC reported.
Marion County jail records did not list Estes as a current inmate and a list of inmates released from the lockup within the last 48 hours was unavailable Friday night.
Estes’ wife, Christine Estes, obtained an order of protection against Estes on Friday, Marion County court records showed.
She claimed her husband started “arguing and cussing” in their bedroom when she moved to another bedroom and locked the door.
Christina Estes claimed the lawmaker then allegedly started banging on the door and threatened to “beat her ass if she didn’t open the door.
The incident lasted two hours, Christina Estes claimed, adding that she is scared of her husband “and that this type of behavior has occurred numerous times since they’ve been married.”
