Six people were arrested Monday during an investigation targeting prostitution in Waterbury.
The sting operation was conducted by the Vice and Intelligence Division with assistance from the Gang Task Force, Auto Theft Unit, the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force and the Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force, Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
Bessette said the initiative looked to address “ongoing quality-of-life issues,” specifically citing prostitution reports in the area of Willow Street and Hillside Avenue in Waterbury.
During the investigation, six people were arrested and charged with prostitution. They have been identified as Waterbury residents 33-year-old Rosemary Sutherland, 40-year-old Amy Steele, 35-year-old Tina Conway, 43-year-old Julianna Nunes, 41-year-old Crystal Watson and 36-year-old Michelle Clabaugh.
Bessette said some suspects were arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday and others were released on a promise to appear.
“This operation is part of an ongoing effort by the Waterbury Police Department to address quality-of-life-related issues throughout the city,” Bessette said. “The department is committed to working with local and state partners to ensure a safer community and improve the living conditions for all residents.”
