Suspect in CT shooting incident arrested after fleeing police

A man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting incident in Bloomfield was arrested after fleeing police and barricading himself into a strangers’ residence in East Hartford on Wednesday.

Bloomfield dispatch learned around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday that Hartford Police Department officers were with a man who alleged that his vehicle was shot at while in Bloomfield, according to the Bloomfield Police Department.

Bloomfield officers initiated an investigation and learned that the alleged victim’s vehicle had four bullet holes, but no injures were reported, police said.

Police said they believed the shooting was a domestic relationship incident and investigators were able to develop suspect vehicle information.

On Wednesday around 10:30 a.m., Bloomfield officers observed the suspect vehicle driving through town and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The suspect vehicle fled, traveling out of Bloomfield, into Windsor, onto the highway and into East Hartford with officers pursuing at high rates of speed, according to police.

Officers said they lost sight of the suspect vehicle once in East Hartford. The East Hartford Police Department was notified of the pursuit as it was heading into town and responded to assist. Officers canvassed the area and located the abandoned suspect vehicle and initiated a K-9 track, police said.

Officers learned that the driver of the suspect vehicle ran into an open house while the residents were outside in the yard, according to police. Police surrounded the house. After a period of negotiation, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Antwane Daniels of Middletown, surrendered. East Hartford police arrested Daniels on charges relevant to within their town.

Bloomfield police said they have charged Daniels with reckless driving and interfering with police and will continue to investigate the shooting incident.

Further charges are pending as the investigation into both incidents continues.
