Suspect killed by Muscle Shoals police was wielding knife and lunged at officers, state lawmen say

The suspect fatally shot by Muscle Shoals officers Sunday night lunged at police while holding a knife, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Tuesday.

Ronald Parrish, 68, of Muscle Shoals, refused commands to drop the knife when he was shot and killed, ALEA said in a statement.

Muscle Shoals police announced the fatal shooting on Monday.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Tuxedo Avenue West in Muscle Shoals when they encountered a knife-wielding man, according to ALEA.

Officers issued verbal commands to the suspect to drop the knife when the man lunged toward them with the knife, leading police to shoot the suspect, later identified as Parrish.

Parrish was taken to Helen Keller Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will perform an autopsy.

ALEA did not release further information except to say that the investigation was ongoing and that the findings will be sent to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office once complete.
