A teenager was arrested in connection with a bomb threat made to a high school in Meriden that was posted on social media.
The Meriden Police Department’s Patrol Division and Special Crimes Unit, school resource officers and Connecticut State Police K-9s were dispatched on Nov. 7 to investigate a bomb threat made to Platt High School via social media, according to the Meriden Police Department.
A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested following an investigation and charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace, police said.
“The Meriden Police Department Detective Division would like to thank members the City of Meriden Board of Education who worked together to help us successfully investigate this bomb threat,” the department said in a release on Tuesday. “We would also like to thank the staff from Hartford Hospital that assisted us as well.
“Due to the disruption to the community and learning environment as well as the vast number of resources required to respond to any school threat, there is a tremendous impact from these incidents,” the department said. “These resources include multiple agencies both within the City of Meriden and State of Connecticut.”
According to police, investigators spent hours obtaining search warrants and conducting interviews.
“We at the Meriden Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to fully investigating any and all school threats as well as holding the offenders accountable,” the department said. “It is our hope that these thorough investigations will allow us to ensure parents can feel comfortable sending their children to school.
“In addition to any criminal charges the offenders of these school threats will also face separate discipline from the school that they attend.”
