Teen arrested on suspicion of DUI crash in Orange that killed woman, critically injured daughter – Orange County Register

An 18-year-old man was in custody on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after he allegedly caused a crash that killed a mother and critically injured her daughter in an Orange intersection on Sunday night, Sept. 29, authorities said.

A man and another juvenile were hospitalized in serious condition but were stable, Orange police said.

Police accuse Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama of Orange of driving south on Tustin Street about 8 p.m. and running through a red light at Collins Avenue — broadsiding a Toyota Rav4 traveling west on Collins through a green light, police said.

Xitlama did not have a valid driver’s license, police said. He was taken to a hospital after the crash but not seriously injured.

A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit, police said.

The mother was in the front-passenger seat of the Rav4 and her daughter was seated behind her, police said, while the man was driving and the other juvenile was behind the driver’s seat.

Further information about the woman was not released by police pending notification of her relatives.
