The 2 Dragon Ball Characters that Might “Never do anything” Because of Goku and Vegeta Always Stealing the Spotlight

Dragon Ball‘s iconic characters Goku and Vegeta have been crucial for its success. But with the announcement of Dragon Ball DAIMA, a contentious debate has been raised among the fans. It is regarding the treatment of two other important characters namely Goten and Trunks.

These young Saiyans are the sons of the aforementioned central figures. Viewers waited for their ascension to more prominent roles with their growth but they were never given such treatment. Goten and Trunks were overshadowed by the dominance of their fathers in the whole storyline.

The Reversal of Growth in Dragon Ball DAIMA

A post by user @SLOplays on X shows a contrast between the young Goten and Trunks, standing side by side, and their infant counterparts crawling on the ground. The regression of Goten and Trunks to babies has been seen by many as a step backward, undoing years of character development and potential storylines.

Goten and Trunks were introduced as young Saiyans with immense potential, who quickly became fan favorites. Sons of Goku and Vegeta respectively, showed promise as the next generation of Earth’s defenders. Their ability to achieve Super Saiyan at a young age demonstrated their extraordinary power.

The fusion technique between Goten and Trunks allowed them to combine into the powerful warrior Gotenks. The fusion form was capable of reaching Super Saiyan 3. Showing that they are capable of rivaling even their fathers’ strength.

Surprisingly, Dragon Ball DAIMA has reverted these characters back to their infant forms. It has left many fans baffled and disappointed because they had been anticipating the duo’s evolution into formidable warriors in their own right.

Young Warriors Got Overshadowed by Their Fathers

The main concern is that Goten and Trunks are constantly overshadowed by their fathers. Because of them, they seem to have little room to develop and take center stage. It feels like they had lost the opportunity to “take their fathers’ place” and become the new generation of Earth’s defenders.

The overshadowing of Goten and Trunks affects the overall narrative structure of the series. The major threats and challenges are consistently being resolved only by Goku and Vegeta, leaving little room for the younger characters to prove themselves or grow as fighters.

The constant focus on these two protagonists has inadvertently pushed other interesting characters to the sidelines.

A fresh narrative of Dragon Ball could allow secondary characters like Goten and Trunks to evolve and take on more significant roles. But it seems these two young Saiyans might be destined to remain in the shadows of their powerful fathers.

Dragon Ball DAIMA will premier in Japan on October 11, 2024.
