One of the most influential and talented names in the music industry, Taylor Swift has been in the game for almost close to two decades. The singer started her career with Big Machine Records in 2006 and has now gained fame worldwide. However, this love didn’t come easily and she went through several trials to establish her name.
The All Too Well singer revealed in an interview that the biggest challenge she faced was the constant reinvention fans expected. Swift was questioned at every point, one repetitive claim was that she didn’t write her songs. This allegation annoyed the songwriter who then went on to write an entire album all by herself. Her third album is a testament to the singer’s writing talents and power of lyrics.
The Songwriting Skeptics: Proving haters wrong
Taylor Swift became popular not only due to her singing ability but also due to her genius songwriting skills. The billionaire singer wrote some of her most popular hits, like Love Story, Mine, Mr. Perfectly Fine, and Back to December.
So, it understandably hurt the artist when people raised their fingers at her songwriting ability. Talking to Rolling Stone in a 2019 interview, the Anti-Hero singer spoke about that hurtful allegation.
I’ve had several upheavals in my career. When I was 18, they were like, “She doesn’t really write those songs.”
In an iconic response to her haters, the talented singer got down to work and wrote an entire album. The third album, Speak Now was credited solely to the singer as she wrote all 14 songs in it. It went on to become 2010’s best-selling act in terms of overall albums, with 4.47 million sold.
So my third album I wrote by myself as a reaction to that.
According to Billboard the album Swift was ahead of the popular rapper, Eminem who earned 4.32 million in 2009. The talented singer-songwriter proved her capabilities via this move, along with releasing an entertaining album.
From Criticized to Celebrated: When Haters Fuel Success
The album was not only praised by the critics, but even haters had to acknowledge the singer’s writing skills. Speak Now was also nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys, Academy of Country Music Awards, and Country Music Association Awards.
The album’s third single, Mean, got Swift two Grammys, one for Best Country Song and the other for Best Country Solo Performance. Her fanbase, called the Swifties, still use this album as a notable example of her prowess.
