The next Battlefield game is around the corner, confirms Mikael Karnell, the lead designer at EA, who is currently working on the next big Battlefield game. The game is set in a modern setting away from the world of World Wars 1 and 2.
This modern setting can find its roots in Battlefield 3 & 4. However, the game will also revive one feature butchered by the latest Battlefield 2042, released back in 2021.
The Next Battlefield Is A Humongous Project
The next addition to the widely celebrated Battlefield franchise will be set in a modern world, the details of which have not been shared except a concept art that does not specify the city the game is set in. It is speculated that the city in the concept art is from Europe.
This project is being undertaken by 4 developers working separately on different aspects of the game. One of which is dedicated to designing the single-player campaign mode for the untitled battlefield, which will be released next year.

The campaign mode in this game will not make the same mistakes made by its predecessor, Battlefield 2042, by providing features like specialists, which turn the game into a hero shooter. The next game is more focused on creating an engaging single-player narrative, much like Battlefield 4, which still stands strong as one of the best additions to the franchise.
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, sheds further light on the same and talks about his biggest inspirations for the next game.
I mean, if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it’s that Battlefield 3… Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we’ll see where it goes from there
Not much about the new Battlefield has been released as of now, apart from a single concept art, but it is speculated to be one of the biggest additions to the franchise.
This Unnamed Battlefield Will Not Be Victim To The Same Fate As 2042
Battlefield 2042 tried to venture into a different territory than what is generally expected from a Battlefield game. It took a bold approach to look at the game from a fresh perspective, which ultimately did not work out in EA’s favor.
The next game, however, seems to be going back to the basics on a scale never seen before. Even EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, claims the next game to be one of the most ambitious projects in EA’s history. There are 4 studios working tirelessly behind the game, including DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion.
