The Second Highest Rated Game of the Year Reveals Confirmed DLC That Will Bring Back Missed Characters and Leaderboards

Astro Bot has finally been released exclusively for the PlayStation 5, and the gaming community immediately became invested in this family-friendly adventure featuring other iconic gaming franchises within and beyond the PlayStation purview. Team Asobi spent three years working on this highly-anticipated project and took everything the developers learned while working on Astro’s Playroom to make something more ambitious and refined.

Despite featuring a great deal in the base game, director Nicolas Doucet confirmed the studio is working on more post-launch content. Fans of the platformer will be pleased to hear more challenging levels will be included and more VIP bots will need rescuing later this year.

Astro Bot Director Confirms More Content Will Be Coming Later This Year

The gaming community did not waste a second diving in and exploring everything Team Asobi had prepared for this project. Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment officially revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro after months of rumors, leaks, and speculations and featured countless first-party franchises to showcase the technological improvements this new console has to offer; however, Astro Bot and God of War, two popular PlayStation mascots were seemingly left out which raised a few eyebrows within the gaming community.

Despite the lack of focus in the PlayStation 5 Pro reveal, the gaming community is having the time of their lives with this new adventure for Astro. Team Asobi began working on this project immediately after having finished Astro’s Playroom and Doucet saw the potential of this franchise being a major player for the PlayStation Pantheon. Doucet confirmed the base game omitted a few major characters and they will be introduced in the DLC along with new activities, challenges, and many more.

The base game featured fun platforming levels and puzzles for the players to solve. Several iconic characters also made guest appearances like Deacon St. John from Bend Studio’s Days Gone; unfortunately, this innocent cameo did not sit well with director John Garvin for some reason. This game was meant to be a celebration for gaming and Team Asobi wanted to honor every other major franchise that contributed to the growth of the PlayStation brand throughout the generations.

The platforming levels seem doable but some players have noticed the difficulty gradually increases as they progress. David Jaffe noticed this and made him reflect on his past work in the earlier God of War game where he included an insanely difficult platforming level. Astro Bot made Jaffe realize his design was a bad level altogether, making the experience for players much harder than he anticipated.

Doucet subtly acknowledges the speedrunning community and realizes this game is perfect for establishing leaderboards. Players will set certain records for specific levels and see if others can beat them and this will test their knowledge, navigation skills, and solving puzzles under pressure which are all great exercises for the mind.

The game was just released and immediately became the second-highest rating game of the year which is no easy feat, especially amidst the fierce competition. A few months ago, trusted gaming insiders like Jeff Grubb were fortunate enough to have played 20 minutes of Astro Bot, and he was already convinced the game was worthy of being nominated for Game of the Year or winning the title outright.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has a wide range of first-party franchises for the PlayStation brand. The gaming company is flexible to work on mature content like The Last of Us and family-friendly games like Astro Bot and appeal to a wide range of players.

Team Asobi struck gold with this project and intends to strike while the iron is hot. Hopefully, more characters and appealing content will be featured in the upcoming DLC to propel this great platforming title to new heights.
