The Witcher 3 Fans Now Know Who’s to Blame for the Saddest Death in the Game That Was Inevitable for the Story

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most popular titles in the action RPG genre. This CD Projeckt Red title was released in 2015 as the third game of the series. Due to the game’s wide popularity, many characters in it got very close to our hearts.

However, the game has showcased some of the most pathetic deaths of our favorite characters in the game as well. For example: Bloody Baron and his wife, betrayal with Vernon Roche, and many more. However, there’s one death that has stunned the fans from inside. And now we know who is responsible for that.

We have seen how the deaths of our favorite characters hurt our emotions and leave a scar in our hearts. The same thing happened when one of the oldest witches alive in the game, Vesemir, died at the very end of the game.

However, in an interview with GamePressure, CD Projekt Red’s former quest designer and present quest director, Pawel Sasko, reveals the reason behind Vesemir’s sacrifice:

Because he was a very well-established character narratively, and I needed someone whose death would truly hurt Ciri. When you look at this story and its structure, the only other people were Yennefer, Triss… and maybe Zoltan? I think that’s it. Lambert and Eskel weren’t important enough to her. And we actually chose Vesemir by elimination.

So, basically, Sasko wanted to give true emotions of pain and agony to Ciri, who happened to be Geralt’s daughter. Also, Vesemir was chosen on the basis of elemination. There were other characters who could have played the role of this sacrifice, but the way Vesemir guided Ciri and became a father figure of her and Geralt and millions of Witcher fans, his death at the very end of the game made us realize what he was to all of us. The Witcher 4 is around the corner, and we will be seeing Geralt yet again, but it will be heartbreaking to miss out on Vesemir.

As mentioned by Sasko earlier, his death was unavoidable. That means whatever path the player chooses, one of the most popular characters of this franchise is going to end his life. The plot of his death sets amid the Battle of Kaer Morhen, when Vesemir spent his final hours defending Ciri from the wrath of the Wild Hunt, putting him in direct danger to the omen of disaster.

This character was already loved by probably all the Witcher fans. But he earned a staggering amount of respect when he used the Aard sign to push Ciri away before his neck was snapped by Imlerith. Ciri later on took down the Wild Hunt, but Vesemir’s funeral after the battle literally crushed us from inside.

What is your choice of most heartbreaking death in a video game? For me it was Soap’s death in the OG Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Let us know your opinions in the comment section.
