Spoiler Alert !!!
Mild Spoilers from Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War season 3
Is there really anything more to say about Aizen, the mastermind behind the entire story of Bleach? No matter where you are or what you’re doing, it was all part of Aizen’s plan! The latest installment of the franchise, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War again seems to prove that.
However, it has turned out a bit differently from what one might have initially imagined. To be precise, this new portrayal of Aizen is very different than the manga’s representation of him. News surrounds the fact that Studio Pierrot took a huge creative risk with his return in Bleach: TYBW, but surprisingly, it made him more promising for the overall plot of the series.
Bleach: TYBW Gifted Us With a More Badass Aizen!
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War has portrayed Sosuke Aizen as far more complex and mature compared to the manga version. In this latest anime adaptation of the series, Aizen is more humanly represented, and one can notice there’s no more goofy facade in his character that he previously used as a mask.
As also mentioned in a certain Reddit comment, here we see a more complicated version of himself, who had returned to being the man he truly was.
Aizen’s newfound vulnerability can now be seen in his way of communication and willingness to cooperate. In one particular scene, he was seen discussing his insights about the changes in Yhwach’s Reiatsu, where Aizen’s tone appeared to be more like a statement rather than goofy boasting. It truly seemed like he didn’t care about anything anymore.
We could also notice that Shunsui Kyoraku understands this change of heart Aizen has undergone and uses this information to his advantage in the situation and to protect the Soul Society. Even though Aizen has become more self-centric, his bond with the Soul Society remains, and he will defend it. This creates an interesting dynamic, as Aizen’s newfound personality brings into question whether he will remain fixed on his goals to the very end.
This Shift in Aizen’s Personality in The Anime Makes Perfect Sense
In TYBW, Aizen’s change in personality has been dearly welcomed even after being so different from what is seen in manga. It was indeed great, having the constant trolling and one-liners, however, in a more serious tone of the series now, this adds much more depth to him in the anime.
Considering Aizen’s emotional state when Urahara’s spell was activated, it’s logical that the experience would leave lasting scars on him. Quite obviously, all his previous encounters like Gin’s betrayal and his long isolation in Muken along with his past sins have affected Aizen psychologically.
His gloomy/emo attitude that we are seeing now, is a direct offshoot of these past happenings. However, this has certainly humanized him more than just his previous goofy character trait and made him more appealing to the general audience.
As he was already quite susceptible to depression, it made this aspect all the more impressive, giving reason for his sudden change in personality. This has also shifted the entire dynamic and plot of Aizen as well as that of Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War as a whole.
