Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies are some of the best there are, crossing the billion-dollar mark at the box office. Thanks to them being a co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios, the films and Holland’s other appearances have been well-received, with fans eagerly awaiting a fourth sequel.
After years of being shrouded in mystery, Spider-Man 4 has apparently found its director in Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton. In talks to direct the film, fans expect Holland’s spidey can finally catch up to Andrew Garfield’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in terms of swinging and action!

Tom Holland‘s last entry in the MCU was in the blockbuster, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Also featuring Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the film ended up with everyone forgetting about Peter Parker and his alter-ego Spider-Man thanks to a crucial memory-wiping magic performed by Doctor Strange.
Having left so many unanswered questions, fans have been waiting for a long time to see what the future holds for Spider-Man and Peter Parker. And so, after years of keeping us up on our toes, Spider-Man 4 has finally found its direction in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He is reportedly in talks to direct the film.
Known for directing one of the best MCU movies post-Endgame, Cretton is also hailed for how spectacularly he covered the action part in Shang-Chi. A brilliant director, under his watch Holland’s web-slinger can finally match up to his predecessors in terms of swinging and action, particularly with The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield.
Marvel Fans React to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 News
While Marvel fans were hoping for Destin Daniel Cretton to announce that finally Shang-Chi 2 is in development, they instead got the news of him helming Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4. Yet, none of them looks disappointed but have proclaimed the movie will be a banger thanks to Cretton’s extraordinary talent.
One thing that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is always criticized for is his action scenes; although beautiful, they failed to live up to the hype of previous Spider-Man movies. Furthermore, no Spider-Man swings the way Andrew Garfield does, making fans eager for Holland to follow in his No Way Home co-stars’ footsteps. And he may finally do so since Cretton is to be directing his upcoming spidey flick.
With such fan reactions, the expectations for the upcoming Spider-Man 4 are certainly high. Apart from Destin Daniel Cretton doing the directing duties, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are back on the writing duties, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal producing the film.
Apart from Cretton’s involvement, The Hollywood Reporter reports the upcoming flick is moving at full speed and is expected to start shooting next year. While Cretton is also attached to the Shang-Chi sequel, it seems the Simu Liu-starrer film will yet again have to take a backseat.
The potential release date for Spider-Man 4 remains unknown.
