Former President Donald Trump is safe after gunshots were in his vicinity, according to a brief statement from his campaign.
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung said Sunday afternoon.
CNN reported the Republican presidential nominee was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach at the time of the incident. The course was immediately locked down. The New York Post is reporting the gunshots were exchanged by two people outside the golf course with the shooters targeting each other and not Trump.
The Secret Service has responded, the reports said.
Trump was injured July 14 after being shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The would-be assassin was killed after fatally shooting one rally attendee and injuring several others.
