Two animals rescued from fire at Berlin business

The Berlin Fire Department rescued two animals and put out a fire at a business at 369 New Britain Road on Saturday afternoon, according to town departments.

The firefighters responded to a call at 5:44 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the second floor rear business of the commercial building.

The department said that the fire burned “through the roof and was burning the rubber roofing material.” The firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a single business but other businesses were damaged by water and smoke. No injuries were reported, according to the department.

There were two animals in one of the businesses affected that were removed from the building and are safe, according to the department.

There is no cause of fire determined at this time and it is under investigation by the town Fire Marshal Office.

New Britain, Cromwell, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield provided support, according to Berlin.
