Two CT juveniles arrested on stolen vehicle charges after foot chase

Two juveniles were arrested on stolen car charges after police in West Haven interrupted a group of minors who were allegedly tampering with a vehicle.

Officers patrolling the area of Knox Street and Canton Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. came across the group of juveniles allegedly tampering with a vehicle before a foot chase broke out, according to Sgt. Scott Allard of the West Haven Police Department.

Allard said the foot pursuit ensued across a parking lot, leading to a juvenile male being taken into custody. The others in the group got into a black vehicle that was identified as a stolen Kia and left the area.

Allard said a female juvenile who was a passenger in the vehicle was then apprehended after a foot pursuit that ended in New Haven. The others who had gotten into the car fled on foot.

No injuries were reported.

According to Allard, the juveniles who were charged were allegedly found with USB cables commonly used to steal Kia vehicles.

The male faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with police, payment card theft and criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary. The female juvenile faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle and interfering with police.

Allard said both juveniles were issued a summons with a court date in New Haven Juvenile Court.
