Two teens arrested for making threats after Foley High School was closed in weapon scare

The Foley Police Department announced Sunday evening that they arrested and charged two teenagers for making terroristic threats on social media.

The two teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were arrested on Friday, according to the release.

The threats were posted on social media following the incident at Foley High School last Thursday that involved the school going into lockdown due to a teacher overhearing a student mention a weapon.

The department stated that parents should talk to their children about what they post on social media because not all speech is protected, specifically if that speech is allegedly threatening.

“Parents, please talk to your kids,” the statement read.

“Not all speech (including social media posts) is protected when it crosses certain lines. There is a reason you cannot yell, “Fire!” in a crowded theater as the old example states. The person may have had no intent of actually starting a fire, nor was there ever an actual fire present, but by simply creating panic through words and inciting fear, chaos, and potential danger, it can cross that line.”

Foley High School will be taking disciplinary action against the two students also.

There have been threats at schools across Alabama since a deadly school shooting in Georgia.
