Just before tipping off in the Maui Invitational, when the UConn men’s basketball team will face its toughest test to this point in the season, the Huskies remained at No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll.
UConn, 4-0, received six first place votes and came in behind Kansas, which received 51. Gonzaga, Auburn and Iowa State rounded out the top five for the second week in a row. Auburn and Iowa State are each among the participating teams in Maui, as well as North Carolina, which dropped two spots to No. 12.
The Big East had a second team move into the top 10 with Marquette moving up five spots after beating Purdue and Georgia last week. Creighton dropped a home game to rival Nebraska, causing a drop to No. 21.

St. John’s fell out of the rankings, back into the receiving votes category after a pair of losses in the Bahamas to Baylor (at the buzzer in double overtime) and Georgia. But the Big East still had four teams ranked in the Top 25, with 5-0 Xavier entering at No. 22.
UConn beat East Texas A&M, 81-46, in its only contest last week.
After returning from Maui, the Huskies will play one final buy game against Maryland Eastern Shore before hosting Baylor, ranked No. 17, and visiting Texas, which received votes. UConn will make its first trip to Madison Square Garden this season to meet No. 3 Gonzaga on Dec. 14 before beginning the conference season at the XL Center against No. 22 Xavier.
