UHC announces multi-year deal keeping Huntsville Hospital System in network

UHC announces multi-year deal keeping Huntsville Hospital System in network

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After weeks of negotiation and some confusion, UnitedHealthcare has announced that it has reached a new multi-year agreement with the Huntsville Hospital Health System.

The insurance company announced Wednesday that it reached an agreement with the hospital system. United said the deal will allow the system’s hospitals to stay in network with the insurer.

“We thank our members and customers for their support throughout this process,” the company said. “We are honored to continue supporting all of the people throughout north Alabama who depend on us for access to quality and affordable health care.”

Last month, the hospital announced plans to end its relationship with the insurer saying it had sent a notice of termination to the company. HHS initially laid out a schedule for when different hospitals would no longer be in-network for people covered by United Healthcare.

Then last week Huntsville Hospital announced a new deal with the United. However, the health system later clarified that it had agreed in principle to a deal and a week extension to its negotiation process. That deadline would have been Thursday, Nov. 21.

This new agreement affects all the hospitals in the Huntsville Hospital Health System. That includes Huntsville Hospital, Madison Hospital, Athens-Limestone Hospital, Decatur Morgan Hospital, DeKalb Medical Center, Helen Keller Hospital, Highlands Medical Center, Lincoln Health, Marshall Medical Centers (North & South), and Red Bay Hospital.
