A 20-year-old was charged with DUI over the weekend after being pulled over by a state trooper for allegedly going about twice the speed limit in Mansfield.
A trooper spotted the motorist going south on Hunting Lodge Road on Saturday just after 11:40 p.m. while conducting speed enforcement and believed the Toyota Tacoma was going well above the 25 mph speed limit, according to Connecticut State Police.
The trooper, who was driving behind the Tacoma, was able to use the speedometer on the cruiser to allegedly determine the driver was going speeds as fast as 50 mph, state police. The trooper then activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and siren to conduct a stop, but the driver continued for about ½ mile before pulling over on King Hill Drive, according to state police.
The driver was identified as Nicholas Wright of Ridgefield, state police said. State police allege that Wright’s eyes were bloodshot and his breath smelled of alcohol, according to state police. When asked if he had any alcohol, state police said Wright initially denied drinking before allegedly conceding he had two shots at a friend’s house.
Wright allegedly failed multiple field sobriety tests and was arrested. He faces charges of speeding, disobeying the signal of an officer and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
He was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 4.
