Fans went into a frenzy when veteran director Francis Ford Coppola revealed that he was about to release a film. Megalopolis was the result and the film debuted to mostly great reviews from critics.
However, the film is not made for everyone. Fans have taken to point out several things wrong with the film including the pacing. However, a clip shared on X went wrong when fans noticed how particularly bad the acting was in the film!
The Acting Is Allegedly Terrible in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis
It’s not all bad. The film is a sci-fi/drama that deals with a genius artist wanting to create a utopia and a mayor who wants to maintain the old ways. Although the film has an intriguing storyline, it’s not an ideal film for everyone.
The film, which took 40 years to make, had quite some ups and downs throughout the production. Despite having a great idea, many companies backed out of it. Megalopolis was finally made, and fans and critics have mixed reviews.
A clip from the film was shared on X. The clip features Nathalie Emmanuel (from Game of Thrones fame) and Adam Driver. However, fans pointed out the remarkably bad acting that Emmanuel did in the scene.
Here’s what fans had to say about the acting in this scene.
The clip features Emmanuel’s character sharing her thoughts with Adam Driver’s Cesar. Although the clip showcases a serious conversation between the two characters, people weren’t able to keep a straight face.
Francis Ford Coppola, who poured his heart and soul into the movie, went to extreme lengths to establish the complex character relationships. According to the director, he even recreated a gathering rehearsal similar to The Godfather.
Francis Ford Coppola Did A Weird Thing
Coppola initially found fame in Hollywood for directing the iconic The Godfather trilogy. Starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and, several iconic actors in leading roles, the world has thanked Coppola for directing such iconic films.
The dinner scene in The Godfather became especially famous for showing the complex relationship dynamics that the characters had. According to Coppola’s interview with Rolling Stone, he did a similar thing with Megalopolis.
The director stated that he was only able to shoot with 1/3rd of the cast members and so he had to get creative.
I did a weird thing with Megalopolis because I could only rehearse with about a third of the cast. It was a very creative, interesting week of rehearsals. You could see the actors find the characters.
Although Megalopolis debuted to some good reviews, the film was considered an average film with flaws in its execution. The acting does seem somewhat atrocious and Francis Ford Coppola might have to answer for it.
Megalopolis received a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDB and an average of 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. With Adam Driver in the lead role, Megalopolis is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
