We Need a Dragon Ball Game With Goku and Gohan Like God of War Ragnarök

Ever since its release, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has made waves in the gaming industry. It’s one of the most hyped entries in the series so far, as it’s preparing to revamp the franchise from the ground up and feature a massive roster of iconic characters.

So far, the game’s trailers have been a beauty to watch, with developer Bandai Namco slowly unveiling everything we can expect to see in the fighting game. However, while Sparking Zero seems like a promising title, it’s time for Bandai Namco to push the boundaries and finally give us a Dragon Ball game inspired by the father-son dynamic of God of War Ragnarök

Next Dragon Ball Game Must Adapt the God of War‘s Iconic Father-Son Relationship

Released way back in November 2022, God of War Ragnarök was an instant smash-hit as fans and critics flocked to check out the final chapter in the sequel series that kicked off with 2018’s God of War. The game was praised for its phenomenal storytelling, gameplay, and return of beloved characters.

Central to the game’s overall narrative was the evolving father-son relationship between Kratos and Atreus. Both characters managed to earn the badge of honor for being one of the most classic and successful duos in all of video games.

Kratos, once a ruthless warrior, learns how to balance his protective instincts with allowing Arteus to grow and follow his own destiny. The evolving relationship depends on their bond and is crucial for both characters’ personal growth, combining strength and vulnerability.

It’s a known fact that the Dragon Ball has one of the most expansive universes, and its deeply interconnected character relationships have been crucial for its success. This makes the franchise a perfect candidate to explore a similar father-son duo like Kratos and Atreus in Ragnarök.

Both Goku and Gohan’s relationship has been the focus point ever since the franchise kicked off, with Gohan’s growth from a timid child to a powerful Z Fighter being molded by his special relationship with Goku.

Just like Kratos, Goku is someone who attempts to balance his role as a mentor and protector of the earth, while Gohan, like Arteus, struggles to find his purpose and realize his potential.

Dragon Ball‘s lore is rich and packed with various fighters, gods, and interesting worlds. If Bandai Namco wants the Dragon Ball franchise to reach new heights, it needs to adapt the father-son duo to give us an emotionally charged narrative that could pull both new and old fans of the franchise.

New Dragon Ball Game is Right Around the Corner

Dragon Ball fans already have Sparking Zero and Daima to look forward to right before the end of the year, with both games coming out in October.

However, beyond that, there’s another title that’s all set to drop in 2025! Bandai Namco has confirmed Dragon Ball Project: Multi will be released at some point in 2025.

We still don’t have a release date, but based on the players who got to try it in the playtest, it looks promising. A 2025 release for the game is expected, considering the fact its testing has finally ended.

The iconic franchise has bent into pretty much every genre aside from traditional fighters that you can think of, be it a multiplayer or card game, so it’s not shocking to see that Bandai Namco is going for a MOBA.

What’s shocking is the fact that the title was enjoyable during the beta. Dragon Ball titles that deviate from the typical fighting genre have a hard time finding an audience, and MOBAs themselves are quite challenging to get into, but Dragon Ball Project: Multi has been received well.

With that said, would you like to see any other idea explored in a Dragon Ball game? If so, let us know in the comments below.
