Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has made a strong comeback after losing a major chunk of its fanbase. The game, which was released in February, became one of the most popular games in the world at one point but constant nerfs and lack of exciting updates killed the game’s hype. Now, Arrowhead is determined to fix what they destroyed.
Helldivers 2 has many unique Stratagems and to ensure that the game feels balanced, the studio rolls out constant updates to rework Stratagems, however, this move ruined many fan-favorite weapons. Earlier this year, Arrowhead’s CCO, Johan Pilestedt, talked to fans to understand players’ feedback and admitted that weapons need to feel powerful. If Arrowhead wishes to keep the game relevant, they need to stick to this promise.
Arrowhead Game Studios Needs To Make Sure Weapons In Helldivers 2 Feel Powerful
Shortly after the release of Helldivers 2‘s first major update, Escalation of Freedom, the CCO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, had a small Q&A on the game’s official Discord server. When a player pointed out that the game needs stronger weapons, Pilestedt replied,
Arrowhead should certainly add new, stronger weapons to the game and if the game seems unbalanced, it can introduce new, stronger enemies to make sure the game feels challenging.
Nerfing weapons have proved to be disastrous in the past, but thankfully, Helldivers 2 didn’t completely die. Arrowhead got a second chance to prove itself, so it can’t mess up this time.
Helldivers 2 Is Making A Strong Comeback
Helldivers 2 was a hit among the fans, hitting milestones that many major video game publishers fail to hit. However, Arrowhead ruined its perfect PvE co-op experience with unnecessary nerfs and the PSN account linking policy, an attempt to force PS players to create a PSN account to continue playing.
After the poor reception of the Escalation of Freedom update, Arrowhead realized its mistake and promised to fix the game in just 60 days. Initially, it seemed impossible, with most of the community claiming that Arrowhead had set an unrealistic deadline. Against all odds, the studio managed to revive the game’s popularity, once again making it one of the most popular co-op games around the world.
Arrowhead must focus on making weapons stronger as Pilestedt had stated. By just focusing on this one gameplay aspect, the studio can maintain a steady player count and prevent Helldivers 2 from becoming irrelevant in the future. As of now, Arrowhead is heading down the right path, but the game still needs some new content, a new enemy faction in particular, to satisfy fans.
