What We Actually Feel for a Charlize Theron Led Lesbian Die Hard Reboot is Proof ‘Agatha’ Cannot Blame Toxic Fans for its Failure

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is back with a bang, with a long list of movies and television shows lined up to be released. September 18, 2024, marked the release date for Marvel’s Agatha All Along, featuring Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and many more incredible personalities.

Since the release of Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: Far From Home (and No Way Home in 2021), the MCU has struggled to keep its original fanbase together, the one that fell in love with Tony Stark and the OG gang. The only movie that has done phenomenally well since those releases is Deadpool & Wolverine

With a ton of brand new characters being introduced in various spinoff series or storylines, Marvel’s being heavily criticized by its fans. However, this incident involving Charlize Theron from 2020 will help you understand that Marvel cannot blame toxic fandom for its failures, but only themselves.

Fans wanted to see Charlize Theron star in a lesbian reboot of Die Hard

Back in 1988, the world witnessed the rise of the Die Hard franchise which featured the legendary Bruce Willis. Everybody loved the movies based on John McClane’s adventures, and 30 years later, several fans believed it was high time for a reboot.

Back in 2020, a fan on X (formerly known as Twitter) suggested that Die Hard filmed a reboot featuring Charlize Theron, who already happens to have a rich history with action films. However, the reboot would feature a lesbian lead trying to save her partner in the movie.

Theron also seemed more than excited to be in a reboot. New Girl’s beloved Hannah Simone also replied to Theron’s re-post saying,

Let me know if you need a tired Indian wife who doesn’t like to run fast even when danger is present and therefore would need all the same.

Theron hilarious agreed to Simone’s request as well. Clearly, this has nothing to do with inclusivity, but fans wanted to see another version of the film because of its successful plot.

This is also proof enough for Marvel and other franchises to realize that they shouldn’t be blaming toxic fans for their failures, but only themselves for delivering poor storylines.

However, there’s still time for Agatha All Along to find its place in the MCU’s long list of successful projects.

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer wanted women of all age groups to be included in Agatha All Along

Marvel’s newest addition Agatha All Along features a cast that has women of literally all age groups. The age group of the female cast of the show ranges from 38 to 75, nearly three whole generations.

The showrunner, Jac Schaeffer made it a priority to have a cast of women from different age groups for this reason (Via Yahoo News),

It felt correct for the world of witchcraft, you know, the idea of maid and mother crone and, as a creator, it is always very important to me, you know. Women are my priority… It was really fun and really rewarding. But it also just felt absolutely necessary to the story.

So far, Agatha All Along has released only its first two episodes. A new episode will be released every Wednesday between September 18 and October 30, 2024, just as the spooky season ends.

However, its first season only features 10 episodes which has also put a sense of doubt in the minds of fans, questioning whether it’ll be enough to do justice to the storyline and gather a following that would want a second season.

Agatha All Along can be streamed on Disney+.
