What’s next for Auburn football? What to know about Oklahoma

Auburn suffered another disappointing setback Saturday, losing its Southeastern Conference opener to Arkansas 24-14.

The loss was due to many of the same issues that hurt the Tigers against Cal. Five turnovers and a pair of costly third down penalties were the key reasons for the loss.

“It is just sickening. Sickening that we can’t take care of the football on the offense, and I’ve got to get that fixed,” Hugh Freeze said after the game.

Auburn (2-2) now prepares for Oklahoma (3-1) in the final game of a five-game homestand. Oklahoma is coming off its first loss of the season, falling 25-15 to Tennessee in its SEC opener.

One thing to note during the game was the decision to bench starting quarterback Jackson Arnold for true freshman Michael Hawkins.

“He has some playmaking ability. He can hurt you with his legs, but that can’t be your game,” Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said of Hawkins after the loss.

It’s unclear who will be Oklahoma’s starter going forward, but Hawkins’ dual threat ability is something Auburn struggled with in its last two games.
