A woman died after she was shot inside a Birmingham bar Thursday night, police said.
North Precinct officers received a call of a person shot around 8:50 p.m. Thursday at the 604 Bar and Lounge at 604 Ninth Street North, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Officers entered the lounge to find a woman lying unresponsive on the floor.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel rushed the victim to UAB Hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Fitzgerald said officers are unsure if the woman was the gunman’s intended target but “our investigators and patrol officers do not believe this was a random shooting.”
The suspect, who was not in custody as of Thursday night, opened fire from outside the bar.
Bar staff are cooperating with police, Fitzgerald said, and officers are identifying patrons who witnessed the gunfire.
Fitzgerald said witnesses were urged to call police or CrimeStoppers with information on the deadly shooting.
