A woman was killed on a Tuscaloosa interstate when she got out of her wrecked vehicle and was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler.
The wreck happened at 5:23 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 359.
According to Tuscaloosa police, the 30-year-old fatality victim was involved in a one-vehicle crash as she exited the ramp from I-20/59 onto I-359.
The Tuscaloosa woman’s car stopped in the middle lane of I-359, said police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor.
A witness told officers that the woman got out of her car after the accident and was then struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler.
The victim was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released.
The department’s Traffic Homicide Unit investigates all serious crashes and will be conducting the follow-up investigation.
Traffic was rerouted until 10 a.m.
