YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — At the Holiday Lights Celebration Thursday night, WRTA highlighted those who dedicate their time each year to helping others.
The 4th annual Holiday Lights Campaign celebration was held at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. People from all over the Valley came together to highlight 12 local nonprofits.
Each winner receives promotion on TV, bus advertising, a featured spot on WRTA’s digital display sign and social media marketing.
The Executive Director of WRTA, Dean Harris, explains how the winners are picked.
“Every year on our website, we have the announcement that we’re doing the awards and there’s a form you fill out and there’s not much to it. Groups can nominate themselves or you can nominate another nonprofit. There’s no special rules. Anybody can do it that’s a nonprofit,” Harris said.
New this year was the “Nonprofit of the Year” award which went to Yellow Brick Place. For that, they won a $3,000 television advertising package on WKBN and a $3,000 social media campaign courtesy of StrategiX Social.
The 12 Holiday Lights winners were:
- Olivia’s Grace
- Youngstown Lion’s Club

- Yellow Brick Place
- Clover Recycling
- Sight for All United
- United Returning Citizens
