Wukong Needs for its Own

The Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, was undoubtedly one of 2024’s most anticipated gaming experiences. Rather than locking players in the base game’s Lands Between, Shadow of the Erdtree teleported gamers to the Land of Shadows, where they are tasked with following in the footsteps of Kindy Miquella for a narrative with new items and challenges to face.

Since Black Myth Wukong‘s release, it’s been often compared to Elden Ring. Even though it isn’t technically a Souslike, it possesses some of the features of the genre, which have drawn various comparisons. However, one thing is crystal clear: if it wants to reach the same height as Hidetaka Miyazaki’s best creation, it needs to perfectly nail this one aspect.

The Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is Bang For Your Buck!

Since the reveal of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, it has been a topic of interest for the game’s community, who wondered how Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware further evolve the iconic Soulslike formula with the addition of the Elden Ring DLC. Interest in the DLC grew in the weeks leading up to its release.

Despite the sky-high expectations for the expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree didn’t have any trouble meeting or exceeding them! Bandai Namco announced that the Elden Ring DLC was a huge success and sold over five million units in less than a week after the launch.

Shadow of the Erdtree is arguably one of the most impactful expansions in any game in recent memory, earning praise for the expansive size of its overworld, the depth of its content, and the elevation of gameplay. The best part about all of this was the fact the DLC just costs $40!

In recent years, we’ve seen developers charging ridiculous amounts for DLCs that are practically hollow. At best, they’ll give you one mission and quest and call it a day. However, Shadow of the Erdtree flipped on that trend and finally brought us a DLC that was epic for its price tag-to-content ratio.

Black Myth Wukong has absolutely shattered all records and is a prime candidate for the Game of the Year award. If it wants to carry forward this momentum, it must follow the path laid down by Miyazaki and his team for the Elden Ring DLC.

It’s rumored that Black Myth Wukong will get its first DLC sometime around the Chinese New Year. That would put it right around the end of January. An official announcement of the plans could materialize in December.

It’s currently known what the DLC could entail, but if it carries a high price tag, let’s hope it actually backs it up with a sizable chunk of content and does not disappoint gamers like other developers.

Unfortunately, in an interview, Miyazaki confirmed that the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be the one and only expansion that will be released for the Souslike game. It’s rare for FromSoftware to pump out more than one DLC for its game, but many had been hoping that, considering Elden Ring‘s popularity, the studio would have considered it.

The Shadow of the Erdtree was released on June 21, 2024, over two years since Elden Ring debuted. This set the longest time ever between a base game release and an expansion for the studio. There’s a high chance that it wants to move on to a new project.

FromSoftware’s next title remains shrouded in mystery, but many have been hoping to see an Elden Ring sequel. While we’re unlikely to get a DLC for the base game, FromSoftware could always give us a full-blown sequel of some kind. Time will tell if that ends up happening.
