HARTFORD – Spencer Jones, one of the Yankees’ top hitting prospects, singled home a run in the 10th inning to lift the Somerset Patriots to a 4-3 victory over Yard Goats, completing a sweep of the best-of-three Eastern League Division Series before 5,703 at Dunkin Park on Thursday night.
Jones, who homered in Game 1 of the series in Somerset, N.J., on Tuesday, grounded one into right field to score the “ghost runner,” and the Goats were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.
Adael Amador had four hits, including a homer, for Hartford, the Northeast Division’s first-half winner. Somerset won the second half and will play either Erie or Akron for the EL championship next week.
This was the Yard Goats first playoff appearance since relocating to Hartford in 2016.
