A BELOVED yoga guru has died at 53 while he was traveling around the United States.
Sharath Jois was known for teaching yoga to A-list celebrities like Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sting.
Jois died on Monday, according to The Hindu Bureau.
On the day of his death, the teacher posted a video of his class on Instagram.
“ASHTANGA YOGA Special Course,” the post’s caption said.
He was teaching the course at the Contemplative Sciences Center at the University of Virginia.
Jois was reportedly on a teaching tour around the US at the time of his death.
According to his Instagram, he was scheduled to appear in San Antonio this weekend.
Next month, he was set to go to Mysuru, Indiana, where he planned to stay until February.
He often taught Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, which is a popular form of yoga that’s similar to exercise.
The guru’s cause of death hasn’t been confirmed.
Jois was the grandson of iconic yoga guru K Pattabhi Jois, who made the Ashtanga yoga style popular.
After his grandfather died in 2009, Jois carried on his legacy.
Tributes to Jois are pouring in on social media.
“Rest in love Boss – i hope 11/11 has beamed you straight into infinite light,” one fan shared under his last post.
“RIP Sharathji – you gave your all to this practice and touched so many,” another wrote.
One heartbroken fan wrote, “Sending my love to ashtangis all over the world. Rest in peace Sharathji.”
