You Know It’s Bad When Paddington 3 Scoring Lowest RT Score of the Trilogy Still Beats Venom 3 and Joker 2

The Paddington franchise got its next installment Paddington in Peru with early critics raving about the film’s success. Although the new movie didn’t surpass its predecessors, it did manage to impress reviewers and maintain the series’ fan following.

However, the surprising factor is that the upcoming movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score managed to overtake not only Joker 2, but also Venom 3. Considered the weakest out of the famed animated franchise, the new film still managed to do what both Joker: Folie à Deux and Venom: The Last Dance couldn’t.

Dougal Wilson took over the direction for the upcoming animated comedy film Paddington in Peru. The movie marks the third installment in the Paddington film series, based on the stories of Paddington the Bear by Michael Bond.

The previous two movies had wowed the audience with charming characters, stunning CGI, and heartfelt storylines. The second movie of the franchise received rave reviews and an overwhelmingly positive reception from both the audience and critics.

However, the new addition didn’t possess the same charm as the older movies in the series. Paul King‘s absence was a notable part of this subdued response, as the director had created magic with the earlier films.

The shift in location and absence of older cast members like Peter Capaldi and Sally Hawkins made it impossible to replicate the glory achieved by its predecessors. Ben Whishaw‘s bear in the blue coat still managed to charm the early critics, who rated the movie at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The bear who bested the Joker and a deadly symbiote

The new animated film scored the lowest in its franchise, with Paddington (2014) scoring 97% and Paddington 2 (2017) scoring a brilliant 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Shockingly, the movie still managed to best two of the most anticipated releases of the year.

Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer Joker: Folie à Deux presented the infamous villain with a new perspective. Unfortunately, fans and critics alike disliked the creative changes and were disappointed by the final outcome.

Todd Phillips‘s narrative was not welcome to the majority and so, the movie managed to score an abysmal 32% on the Tomatometer. Similarly, Kelly Marcel‘s awaited epilogue for Tom Hardy‘s Venom trilogy did not impress the critics.

The Sony film depicted Eddie Brock’s last adventures with his beloved symbiote but it failed to gather the expected hype. Critics cited the reason behind the film’s poor reception to be its subpar comedy, unmemorable scenes, and multiple plot holes. The movie only scored 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, disappointing fans who were expecting an epic finale.

Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017) are currently available to watch on Prime Video.

Paddington in Peru is scheduled to be released on 17 January 2025.

Joker: Folie à Deux is currently available to watch on Prime Video.
