Youngstown police team up with local group for winter clothes drive

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — It’s the season of giving, and the Youngstown community was in the spirit on Saturday morning.

The Youngstown Police Department teamed up with Victoria’s Vision to give away clothing to families in need. Families could pick from coats, hats, gloves, boots and other items.

The giveaway started in 2018, and the Victoria’s Vision gave away 100 coats it’s first year. This year there were over 500 given out.

The organization is named after Victoria Allen, who passed away in 2021.

“She was a big advocate in the community. She worked endlessly for the children and the elderly. This is what we do for her to keep her memory alive,” said Michelle Moorhead with Victoria’s Vision.

Moorhead says once stock gets low after winter, they start buying during the off-season for the clothing drive the following November. They also receive clothing through donations.
