SYRACUSE, NY. (WKBN) — Youngstown State men’s basketball went on the road and nearly pulled off the upset off Syracuse in a 104-95 in double overtime loss at the RMA Dome on Saturday.
YSU guard EJ Farmer led the team with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while Nico Gallete finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Ty Harper added 17 points as well.
YSU entered the game with a 12.5-point underdog but quickly jumped on the Orange and maintained a 38-31 lead at halftime.
But Syracuse was able to rally late and answer YSU score for score in the final minute of regulation to force overtime tied at 73.
Then, after YSU fell behind eight points in the first overtime, the Penguins rallied for a 10-2 run in the final two minutes to tie it up at 86-86 to send it to double overtime.
Syracuse guard JJ Starling scored a game-high 38 points for the Orange.
YSU falls to 1-2 on the season and next face off against Monmouth on Nov. 21.
