1 Hidetaka Miyazaki Soulslike Broke a Tradition that Even Elden Ring had to Follow

Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team at FromSoftware have kept one iconic weapon in each and every one of the Souls series games, even the critically acclaimed Elden Ring. However, one game does defy this norm. Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, was an attempt by the company to move away from their established styles and build a new world.

In the process, the game does not feature the most iconic weapon in the Souls series. Yes, we are talking about the Moonlight Greatsword. One of the most powerful weapons in the Souls series, this weapon is present in all the games by FromSoftware except Sekiro.

When asked about whether the weapon was going to be introduced in Sekiro through future updates, Miyazaki replied in the negative, emphatically.

Sekiro Did What Elden Ring Couldn’t

Elden Ring is widely acclaimed as the best work of Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team at FromSoftware. The game features the Moonlight Greatsword as one of the most powerful weapons in the game. This trend was previously followed in Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, too.

However, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice did not have it at all. When asked about it in an interview with GameInformer, Miyazaki replied,

First of all, we want to make it clear that – we have this reputation for featuring the Moonlight Greatsword and things like that in our games – we don’t want this to feel like too much of a bind. We’re creating this new IP and this new world. We don’t want to feel like we’re beating a dead horse or just going to put it out for the sake of it or just going to cram it into the lore in some way. It kind of puts restrictions on us, so we are not featuring the Moonlight Greatsword this time.

Originally planned as a sequel to the ninja-action series Tencho, Sekiro became FromSoftware’s first foray outside the traditional world of Souls.

Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team are known for their brilliant games. They have produced a number of masterpieces over the years. However, with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, the vaunted Elden Ring DLC, FromSoftware has finished all of its pipeline projects. The DLC was similar to the ones released for Dark Souls 3.

Now, fans all over the world are eagerly waiting to see which direction the studio moves. As of writing this article, there have been no new updates on the part of either Hidetaka Miyazaki or FromSoftware regarding any future projects.
