A 29-year-old man suffered first-degree burns on his legs from a gas explosion at his home in Athienou. He is hospitalized at Larnaca General Hospital.

At the time of the explosion, his wife and their three-year-old child were at home but fortunately were not injured. The explosion occurred around 9 p.m. in the bedroom.

According to the fire department spokesperson, Andreas Kettis, “there appears to have been a gas leak from a cylinder located in a gas heater inside the bedroom on the first floor of the two-story house.”

The 29-year-old man in the bedroom was injured by the explosion and was transported by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital.

Extensive damage was caused to the bedroom, furniture, and equipment by the explosion.

The Fire Service, according to Mr. Kettis, ventilated the room and conducted an inspection.

The circumstances under which the explosion occurred are being investigated by the Athens Police in cooperation with the Electrical and Mechanical Services.
