The Detroit Tigers placed right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister before Tuesday’s game in Los Angeles.
To take his spot, right-handed reliever Brendan White was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
White was optioned to Toledo just nine days ago, but he was eligible to return sooner than usual because he is replacing an injured player.
White is 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA in 40 2/3 innings with the Tigers. He struck out 44 and walked 15.
The 24-year-old was in his third stint at the big-league level after being added to the 40-man roster over the winter. A 26th-round draft pick out of Siena College in 2019, White is 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA this year for the Mud Hens with 46 strikeouts and 10 walks in 34 innings.
Faedo, 27, has pitched out of the bullpen more recently after making 12 starts earlier in the year.
Overall he’s 2-5 with a 4.45 ERA in 64 2/3 innings with 58 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Faedo was placed on the IL retroactive to Sept. 16, so there’s a chance he could return to the active roster on Oct. 1, the final day of the regular season.
White is likely to be pressed into action immediately on Tuesday night as the Tigers plan a bullpen game against the Dodgers.
