At the Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet, Jeff Goldblum’s Look Was Literally Inspired by “The Garden of Time”

One important thing to know about our man Jeff Goldblum is that he is not afraid of a little accessorizing. At the most recent Met Gala held in honor of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the latest Costume Institute exhibit, the actor showed his deft hand at mixing and matching jewelry.

To wit: his Prada tuxedo jacket was covered in three Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany brooches; a bird standing atop an opulent stone, plus two abstract-ish flowers in diamonds and pearls, which were inspired “The Garden of Time,” the short story by JG Ballard that inspired the Gala’s dress code. Goldblum also showed off his penchant for glasses; wearing a pair of tiny gold-rimmed glasses with tinted lenses while he walked the red carpet, and carrying an extra pair in the exact style in his jacket pocket. Then there was the case of the fringed woven shawl he draped around his neck, which created a double effect with the bow detail on his Prada white poplin shirt; and the white gloves he carried in one hand but seemingly did not hold. A Tiffany Cocktail watch brought the whole thing together—as did the chunky Prada boots on his feet; the exaggerated square toe feels almost like another accessory. But the thing is, it just worked!

The second best part of Goldblum on the Met Gala red carpet? The impromptu poetry slam, when the actor started reciting Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven,” accompanied by Emma Chamberlain’s interpretive dancing, while Emily Ratajkowski watches. You can see the whole thing below. You’re welcome.
