An alarm was sounded in the early hours of Tuesday in Baltimore USA when a cargo ship carrying containers hit one of the bridge piers causing it to collapse.
The bridge that collapsed is the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
According to the first reports, there were several cars on the bridge at the time of its collapse.
According to a fireboat operator “a container ship hit the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Part of the bridge has collapsed. Fire and police boats are rushing to the area.”
