Camila Cabello’s absence at last year’s Met Gala was noted. However, today she proved that the wait was worth it. The singer with Cuban roots arrived on the red carpet with a design that revealed a very unique interpretation of this edition’s dress code: The Garden of Time.

The 2024 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which will resuscitate fashion pieces that are so fragile they can’t be worn again. To pay tribute, the “Havana” singer paraded on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a lace-up v-neck, metallic dress by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, the hem of which was artfully distressed. The dress weighed 15 pounds and took over 450 hours to make and was embellished with 250,000 Swarovski crystals.

To accessorize the dress, Cabello paired it with barely there, strappy sandals and discreet diamonds, but the real head-turner was her clutch. A block of ice encasing a single rose, evoking the one on the invitation to the gala. The design dripped on the carpet as she ascended and was one of the evening’s most creative allusions to the passage of time and ephemerality. We hear that by the end of the evening Cabello happily left the gala with only the rose.
