By King Charles to abstain from public duties after revealing he had been diagnosed with cancer last February and Prince William to be devoted to his wife as the Kate Middleton shocked the world by revealing that she is also suffering from cancer, the burden of the royal family’s official duties has fallen on Camilla.

Queen Camilla was on Wednesday at a market in Shrewsbury town centre, which was thronged by thousands of people, and referred to the Princess of Wales for the first time since Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer.

The touching message from two little girls

The Queen browsed several food, craft and jewelery stalls when she was stopped by two little sisters, 10-year-old Harriet and 6-year-old Lois who had made banners for Kate decorated with hearts, flowers and stars, asking the Queen to give Kate the gifts they prepared.

“I know Catherine is overwhelmed by all the well wishes and support,” he said, according to the Mirror.

In fact, Harriet apologized for the fact that the banners were crumpled. “I’m sorry they’re a bit wrinkled,” she said, but Camilla leaned down to speak to them and said, “I’ll take care of them and make sure she knows they’re coming.”

The answer for the king

Camilla received thousands of well wishes during her visit while chatting with vendors. In fact, someone from the audience gave her a sketch with her and Charles, while at one point she was asked how she feels after the king’s cancer diagnosis, with her replying: “I’m standing up”.

The visit to Shrewsbury was Camilla’s first royal engagement since Kate also announced she had been diagnosed with cancer. The Queen has now taken on a leadership role for the royal family, appearing at many events on her behalf since both Kate and her husband King Charles, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, stepped back from public duties.

On Thursday Camilla will represent the king at the annual royal Maundy ceremony and will distribute unique coins to community leaders from across the country. Camilla will stand in for Charles when the ceremony takes place at Worcester Cathedral.

Then on Sunday, she will accompany her husband when he attends church on Easter Sunday – his most important public appearance since he was diagnosed with cancer.
