Police reported found narcotics and an unspecified amount of money during a traffic stop in Bridgeport on Sunday shortly after the driver struck two police cruisers during an escape attempt.
The incidents unfolded when officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Shelton Street at about 1:04 p.m. after they received multiple 911 calls reporting a potential breach of peace complaint, according to the Bridgeport Police Department. When officers arrived, witnesses pointed them in the direction of a silver Nissan Altima.
According to police, the driver of the Nissan, identified as 21-year-old Gregory Thompson of Bridgeport, was asked to get out of the vehicle but instead drove away and struck two police cruisers in the process. Police notified other officers before the Nissan was spotted on River Street and pulled over.
Bridgeport police said they found “narcotics and currency” during a search of the vehicle. According to police, they were seized and detained as evidence.
Thompson was arrested and charged with interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving, police said. His bail was set at $30,000.
He was currently not charged with any drug-related offenses, according to police.
