DirecTV, Nexstar dispute leads to new distribution agreement

DirecTV and Nexstar Media Group today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement, only a day after a temporary arrangement allowed local television stations to return to the package.

According to the companies, the new agreement covers 176 Nexstar-owned local television stations and the company’s national cable news network, NewsNation.

Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Nexstar owns America’s largest local broadcasting group, with 200 owned or partner stations in 116 television markets.

Back in July, DirecTV removed Nexstar’s network and local community programming from its satellite, cable and streaming systems as a result of an impasse in negotiations.

Last week, Charter Communications and Disney ended their cable stalemate, which froze out viewers seeking everything from college football to local ABC affiliates, in time for Monday Night Football.
