The Edmonton Elks selected linebacker Joel Dublanko with the first overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old linebacker spent six years with the Cincinnati Bearcats in the NCAA.
He spent the 2022 NFL training camp with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and played 2023 USFL’s Philadelphia Stars.
The six-foot-three, 240 pound linebacker was born in Aberdeen, Wash., but qualified for Canadian citizenship because his dad was born in Edmonton.
The Elks finished 2023 last in the West Division with a 4-14 record.
