A Florida man is charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed his roommate in the neck — doing so while clad in a cat costume.
The Alachua County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office said Thursday deputies were called to a house in northwest Gainesville after a male subject reported he had been stabbed in the neck by his roommate — later identified as Omar J. Gutierrez.
Bodycam video released by the sheriff’s office shows deputies kicking in the door of the residence and then calling out for the victim and suspect to come out.
After a few moments, the victim emerges, with the top of his shirt clearly soaked in blood. Deputies called out several more times before Gutierrez finally emerged, in costume, and was taken into custody.
“We exchanged Gutierrez’s cat costume for a green and white striped jump suit,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
As of midday Friday, Gutierrez remained in the Alachua County Jail under a $1 million bond.
