Former Nebraska WR commits to Michigan State as transfer

Alante Brown is committed to Michigan State, again.

The former Nebraska wide receiver announced his transfer commitment to the Spartans via social media on Friday.

A former three-star prospect from Simeon High School in Chicago, Brown was committed to Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class. He didn’t sign with the Spartans, then spent a year at St. Thomas More Prep in Connecticut before signing with Nebraska’s 2020 class after considering Michigan State again.

Brown, 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, had 22 catches for 262 yards, two rushes for 17 yards and 16 kickoff returns for 284 yards in 30 games with 11 starts over three seasons at Nebraska. He entered the portal in April after leaving the program in February, according to the Lincoln Journal Star, and has two seasons of eligibility left.

The commitment from Brown comes after Michigan State lost its top two receivers from last season. Jayden Reed was picked by the Packers in the second round of the NFL draft last month while Keon Coleman, who led the team with 58 catches for 798 yards and seven touchdowns last year, transferred to Florida State last week.

Fifth-year senior Tre Mosley returns as the team’s top receiver while Montorie Foster Jr. has starting experience and is healthy again after playing through injury last year. Christian Fitzpatrick had last season cut short due to injury while second-year players Tyrell Henry, Jaron Glover and Antonio Gates Jr. appear poised for larger roles.

Michigan State now has a trio of transfer commitments this spring in Brown, Cincinnati safety Armorion Smith and Colorado defensive tackle Jalen Sami. TCU cornerback Kee’yon Stewart committed to the Spartans on May 6 and less than two weeks later flipped to Arkansas.
