From 2006 to 2021, actor Daniel Craig gave James Bond fans his own version of the iconic British spy. With 5 action-packed movies, the actor brought a refreshing and gritty realism to the character, reshaping the James Bond franchise’s new era.

These movies not only showcased Craig’s ability to handle intense action sequences with ease but also introduced the fans to a James Bond who is a complex person, haunted by his past and determined to complete his missions. Looking back at it, it may seem like Craig was perfect, however, initially, there was one major concern regarding his casting: his looks.
The casting directors were concerned about Daniel Craig’s looks before casting him as James Bond

Martin Campbell, the director of the actor Daniel Craig‘s first James Bond movie, Casino Royale, appeared for an interview with Express UK and talked about one problem that came up before casting Craig, which almost stopped him from becoming James Bond,
“My only reticence with Daniel… he was really a superb actor, there’s no doubt about that… it was the fact that with people like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan was that they were all traditional looking Bonds. All handsome guys, all sexy, all very attractive to women, and so forth. Daniel was obviously tougher and ruggeder, but he wasn’t a traditional handsome guy. So I just thought about that for a minute and apart from that, absolutely it was always him.”
In the end, Craig managed to bag the role and appeared in 5 James Bond movies: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021).
Daniel Craig managed to beat Henry Cavill

Campbell also talked about actor Henry Cavill who auditioned for the role as well back in 2005. Speaking with Express UK, Campbell said,
“He [Henry Cavill] looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiselled. He just looked a little young at that time back then.”
Cavill was 22 back when he auditioned for the role but can he try again after 18 years? As Craig ended his James Bond run with 2021’s No Time to Die, the hunt for the next James Bond actor has begun. Fans are really excited about the announcement but no information has come forward as of now.
