A juvenile has been charged in connection with an armed robbery on a street in Fairfield on Sunday that investigators believe was targeted, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a possible robbery on New Hampshire Avenue just after 8 p.m. Sunday and learned that the victims were on a bike ride when they were allegedly confronted by several juveniles who were wearing ski masks and carrying guns and a knife, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

The victims told police that the group showed them their guns and a knife and demanded their belongings, police said.

No one was hurt in the robbery, and police said that it appeared to have been an isolated incident between people who knew each other.

Police said investigators quickly identified a suspect and arrested the juvenile at their home in Fairfield without incident. Investigators notified Fairfield Public Schools of the arrest, according to police.

“Although this was not a school-related incident and there is no threat to schools, actions have been taken to prohibit the suspect from school grounds pending the disciplinary process,” Sgt. Michael Stahl said in a statement.

The juvenile was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree threatening, carrying a pistol without a permit and fifth-degree larceny and was scheduled to appear in court in Bridgeport at 9 a.m. on Monday, according to police.

Police said they do not believe there is a threat to the public, but an investigation is ongoing.
