GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A man and woman were injured in a late-night fire involving an unattached garage in Grand Rapids Township.
The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 in the 3700 block of four Mile Road NE.
Grand Rapids Township Fire Chief Luke Werdon said fire crews arrived to discover that two people had escaped the fire, but were injured. Both were taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Werdon said he was told Thursday that both of the inured were awake and talking.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Werdon said it may never be determined because of the extent of damage.
The garage, about 30-feet-by-40-feet, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Werdon said there was three vehicles and two trailers inside the garage.
Fire departments from Plainfield, Cannon, Ada, Algoma, Alpine, Sparta and Grand Rapids all were called to help fight the fire.
Werdon said the fire was challenging to fight because a second-floor storage area collapsed onto the first floor.
