While actress Meryl Streep made everyone stop in their tracks and check their fashion sense with her demonic stare in The Devil Wears Prada, she is actually known to be quite warm and sweet off-screen. Streep has often been considered one of the greatest living actors of the generation and she has her three Oscars, eight Golden Globes, and a Cecil B. DeMille Award to prove it.
Mery Streep is also known to be very grounded and sweet off-camera. Barbie star Ryan Gosling once recounted a story where Streep appreciated his mother’s fashion choice at an award ceremony while the latter was feeling embarrassed about it.
Meryl Streep’s Legendary Career

Ever since her debut in 1975, Meryl Streep has only ascended in her career and has been branded as one of the best actors of the century. She has often been lauded for her complete immersion into her characters, even learning foreign languages and accents to perfection. The actress has performed on stage, on TV, and on film.
Streep started her acting career on the stage and featured in many plays on and off-Broadway. She stated that she wanted to get into films after watching Robert De Niro’s performance in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. Funnily enough, De Niro was the one who discovered her on stage and gave her her breakthrough role in the war drama The Deer Hunter. She starred along with her then-partner John Cazale, who passed away due to lung cancer soon after. Streep reportedly was with him throughout his ordeal.

After being nominated for a Best Supporting Role Oscar for The Deer Hunter, Streep won her first Academy Award in the same category for Kramer vs. Kramer. The actress reportedly suggested many rewrites to her character to make her more human and sympathetic rather than antagonistic. She also won her first of eight Golden Globe Awards for the film.
Meryl Streep has since starred in many leading and supporting roles, garnering a record 21 Academy Award nominations and over 30 Golden Globe nominations. She won the Oscar for Best Actress for Sophie’s Choice and won it again for her role as British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. She was also honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Meryl Streep Helped Out Ryan Gosling’s Mother

Despite her huge success, Meryl Streep remains one of the most grounded and warm personalities in Hollywood. Many have recounted positive experiences with the actress and she is also known to be charitable. Actor Ryan Gosling spoke about a positive experience that he had with the actress when he took his mother to an award show.
Gosling, while speaking on The Graham Norton Show, said that he had taken his mother Donna Gosling to an awards ceremony. Apparently, a friend of his mother’s had convinced her to style her hair in the ‘beehive style’ and said that it was all the rage. However, once they got to the ceremony, it was quite awkward for her. He said,
“My mom sat in front of Rachel Weiss and her hair was so high that Rachel had to keep [ducking]. My mom kept sinking in her chair. And I didn’t know what to do because, you know, I just wanted her to have a nice night.”

He then went on to say that during the commercial break, he approached Meryl Streep who was sitting next to him, and asked her to compliment his mother about her hair to which the legendary actress agreed,
“I said in a commercial break to [Meryl Streep], ‘Would you mind just telling my mom you like her hair?’. And she was like, ‘I got this’. And then during the commercial, she goes, “Do you know I wish I was going to do a beehive and I wish I had done that’. My mom was raising the roof the whole night.”
Ryan Gosling has never worked with the actress either but she seems to have made both Gosling and his mother happy.
